The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) and Impression 5 Science Center will celebrate 30 years for the annual Adopt A River event this Saturday, May 11 from 8:30am to 1pm at Impression 5 Science Center, 200 Museum Drive in Lansing. Volunteers will help make the Lansing area even more beautiful by helping clean up the Grand and Red Cedar rivers along the 10.2 mile Lansing River Trail.

PNC Senior Economic Advisor Stuart Hoffman: Initial Jobless Claims Jumped by 22K in Early May

  • Initial claims for unemployment insurance jumped by 22,000 to 231,000 in the week ending May 4. The four-week moving rose by 5,000 to 215,000.
  • Continuing claims rose by 17,000 to 1.785 million in the week ending April 27 but the four-week moving average fell by 6,000 to 1.781 million.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) announcement to move forward with harmful changes at the Iron Mountain Processing Center that could lead to significant mail disruptions in the Upper Peninsula, U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, led 25 Senate colleagues in calling on USPS to pause all changes to its processing and delivery network that could slow down mail delivery until the potential impacts are further studied by the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) and addressed by the Postal Service. In a bipartisan letter, Peters expressed concern over the impacts these changes have already had on communities across the country, and the potential impact to timely mail delivery that further changes could cause.
