Rights to health care, housing and education assistance are among those provided to the tribe with federal recognition

LANSING, Mich. – The Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians is applauding the Michigan Senate for approving a resolution urging the U.S. Department of the Interior to approve the tribe’s petition for federal recognition.

Introduced by Sen. Mark Huizenga, R-Walker, Senate Resolution 151 states that federal recognition is needed to provide Grand River Bands members rights to health care, housing, and education assistance, as well as other resources, that are provided to federally recognized tribes.

LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced the Michigan Community Service Commission will receive $13.4 million in federal funds to support over 1,100 Michigan AmeriCorps members. Included in that funding is nearly $1.9 million for programs overseen by Michigan College Access Network — $1,268,838 for AdviseMI and MSU College Advising Corps, and $612,624 for College Completion Corps.

PNC Senior Economic Advisor Stuart Hoffman: Initial Unemployment Claims Dipped 2K to 231K in the Week of 6/25;

U rate dips back to 0.9%.

Initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 2,000 to 231,000 in the week ending June 25 from an upward revised 233,000 in the week ending June 18. The four-week moving average of initial claims, which smooths out some of the volatility, moved up 7,000 to 232,000 in the week ending June 25. It hit a low of 172K in early April.  The insured unemployment rate dipped to a very low 0.9 percent in the week ending June 18 from an upward revised 1.0 percent in the prior week.
