Twenty years ago, I found myself in quite a pickle. I'd been named chief staff executive of Michigan PTA shortly after the previous executive had decided to move the location of our annual conference but hadn't secured a new venue. The meeting was just a few months away, and I really didn't have a clue about associations or hotel contracts, or much of anything really. A supplier stopped by to introduce himself and offered to take me to lunch. I accepted - mainly because I was feeling overwhelmed and just needed someone to talk to. I'm quite sure he got an earful from me that day. Not only did he lend a much-needed listening ear, but he also gave me one piece of advice: call MSAE.

Doug Stanton, author of the book “In Harm’s Way”, is a keynote speaker who will describe the survival of 316 sailors after the sinking of the USS Indianapolis.

Taylor Benavente is joined by Sarah-Grace Battles, Communications Manager, Michigan Nonprofit Association, Jaime Lewis, Finance and Database Manager, Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) for a pair of segments and then Mary Kate Cunningham, CAE, Vice President, Public Policy, American Society of Association (ASAE) joins him for the second pair.

Held annually in February, the Michigan Society of Association Executives’ Legislative and Public Policy Conference is recognized as Lansing’s first major legislative event of the year. This well respected event features new leadership visions, policy issues, pundit commentaries and candidate debates and serves as the premiere legislative conference dedicated to the association community.

The afternoon of programming is followed by one of the best attended Legislative Receptions including guests from the Michigan House and Senate, Supreme Court, Governor's office and various state departments. 

Traverse City Tourism's Terese McInnis, CMP, GMS and Tori Piersante Vice President in Sales, tell their story, the evolution of Traverse City's Placemaking, and why the city is now a destination for meetings and conferences.
They also review the benefits of geting as CMP certificate or working with someone who is. 

After seven years Association Impact is in the capable hands of a new crew. Taylor Benavente takes over as host for Cheryl Ronk, and MSAE, the Michigan Society of Association Executives is under the new leadership of Kelly Turner CAE, who succeeds Ms. Ronk after her three decades of leadership. In this episode several key team members of MSAE's staff and board share their job focus, and things they are looking forward to in 2019.
