LANSING, Mich. (March 8, 2023) – The Lansing Economic Area Partnership’s (LEAP) mission is to work with local business and community leaders to attract world-class companies to Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties and create jobs and community investment that support our families and our local economies.

The Michigan Manufacturing and Innovation Campus (MMIC) is a true opportunity to attract good-paying jobs to the Tri-county area and bring our supply chain back to the U.S.

As Clinton County and Eagle Township undergo a master planning amendment process, LEAP is conducting its due diligence now to ensure any development is smart, managed, environmentally sound, and has a positive impact on the quality of life in Eagle Township, Clinton County and the entire Tri-county area.

Large-scale developments, like the MMIC, require large, contiguous parcels of flat, open land. Using a redevelopment-first economic development philosophy, LEAP has scoured the entire Tri-county area to find a suitable site for the MMIC. Eagle Township is the only place in the entire surrounding area with the combination of land and proximity to major airports, interstates, highways, and access to first-class educational institutions like Michigan State University and Lansing Community College.

Independent experts have collected and analyzed information about the proposed MMIC site to determine its viability for development. The surveys include environmental audits, geotechnical information, wetlands delineation, archaeological reports, endangered species reports, water quality reports, community impact, title, and survey work. Traffic studies, air quality, and environmental studies will be conducted on an ongoing basis once a development is identified.

bobt“We have an opportunity to attract the jobs of the future and make a significant investment in agriculture and our quality of life,” said Bob Trezise, president, and CEO of LEAP (left). “The Michigan Manufacturing and Innovation Campus will enable us to compete with states like Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky and offer our children and grandchildren more good-paying jobs and an opportunity to build bright futures right here where they grew up.”

LEAP is launching an education effort including a website and fact sheet to ensure Clinton County residents have access to accurate information and answers to their most pressing questions.

“At Eagle Township, we can welcome jobs and progress while protecting our special way of life here in Mid-Michigan and we are committed to public input and collaboration every step of the way,” Eagle Township Supervisor Patti Schafer said. “In the months to come, we will be working with stakeholders to make sure people get the facts about the Michigan Manufacturing Innovation Campus. By giving people more information, we can empower residents to make the best decisions based on facts and accurate information so we can build a strong future together.”
