Lansing Region EV Ecosystem Grows Stronger with Expansion of a Significant Supplier

DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Sept. 11, 2023) —Today, longstanding Lansing region manufacturer Molded Plastics Industries (MPI), announced it will add 36 new jobs and a 36,000-square-foot building during the first phase of construction to expand its existing location in Delhi Township, Michigan. MPI, recently acquired by National Composites, opened its doors in 1974 as a manufacturer of custom-molded fiberglass and thermoplastic products. The new jobs and $6,800,000 investment will service the electric vehicle and medical industries.

"National Composites is thrilled to embark on a journey of expansion, both in terms of our facility and our work community at our MPI location. As a company on a dynamic growth trajectory, we proudly operate across several states, yet Michigan is where we started and is our home. We are grateful for the support enabling us to nurture our growth and prosper within the remarkable state of Michigan," said Adam Fenton, CEO of National Composites.

MPI has experienced rapid growth in recent years, serving the electric and specialty vehicle and medical industries, and is on pace to outgrow its current 60,000-square-foot building.

“The Lansing region, and Michigan, are an electric vehicle manufacturing and supply chain hot spot. MPI’s expansion in the region is a vital addition as the Lansing region rapidly builds the future of mobility,” said Bob Trezise, president and CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP). “Of course, projects like this are possible because of great partners, especially the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Delhi Township. Congratulations to all!”

To outcompete multiple alternative site locations identified by the company, LEAP assisted MPI in accessing business expansion support programs to encourage the company’s investment in the region. MPI received a $125,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based job creation grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund and a Public Act 198 Industrial Facilities Tax Exemption from Delhi Township.

“The decision by MPI to expand in Michigan underscores our state’s leadership in electric vehicles, future mobility, and high-tech innovation, as well as the strength of our business climate and talented workforce,” said Matt McCauley, MEDC Sr. Vice President of Regional Prosperity. “This project is a win for Mid-Michigan and for the entire state. We are grateful to Governor Whitmer, legislators from both parties, and local officials for their continued support for our programs that help make announcements like today’s possible. We appreciate the efforts of Delhi Township and LEAP in supporting this effort and will continue working to win projects, invest in places, and support our people as we encourage businesses of all sizes to make it in Michigan.”

MPI will expand on approximately 13 acres adjacent to its current facility at 2382 Jarco Drive in Delhi Township.

“We’re thrilled longtime area manufacturer Molded Plastics Industries is continuing to invest in both its facilities and its workforce in Delhi Township,” said Delhi Township Supervisor John Hayhoe. “The township is deeply committed to working with local businesses to ensure they have the tools needed to thrive in this changing economy.”

MPI boasts an experienced team dedicated to high-quality work and culture, providing guaranteed wage increases, pathway training, strong benefits, and profit-sharing. For more information about MPI and potential career opportunities, visit https://nationalcomposites.com/careers/.
