High School Jazzers…a K-12 Music Program Improvises and Survives!

Education’s Business: Taking Positive Actions
May 7, 2015 9:36 AM

Education, Entertainment, MotivationThe theme of music for Education’s Business represents the purpose of the show, successful positive actions in K-12 education that often go unnoticed. Proudly, the opening and closing sounds of the show have roots in the band room at Elk Rapids High School, where students, parents and teachers found ways to keep the jazz band alive during trying budgetary times in the district.

In this episode, Karl’s guest is Band Director, Dave McKeon. Dave started the jazz program over twenty years ago and despite some tough financial times, continues to make music in Elk Rapids today. A great story of vision, perseverance and learning that reflects the value of hard work, protecting important cultural aspects of our schools.

Education's Business: Taking Positive Actions, hosted by Karl Klimek, Exposing and celebrating the successful partnerships between K-12 schools and industry/community partners. Special focus is on Science – Technology – Engineering – Math (STEM) and Career Technical Education (CTE) efforts.

Theme music for Education’s Business is performed by the Elk Rapids High School Jazz Band
