Taking the "First Step" To Employment

Edyth_Hatter_Williams.jpegFrom the Michigan Business Network studios at 617 Seymour, Chris Holman talks with Edythe Hatter Williams, CEO of Capital Area Michigan Works. They discuss the "First Step" program which is a school-to-work program designed as an opportunity for high school students. They work closely with the Lansing Board of Water and Light to perform an internship-like experience. If the students complete this program they are awarded a scholarship to Lansing Community College. The two discuss expansion of this program over the past 8 years, along with employment in the Lansing area. 

Major partners of this program are: Dean Transportation, Lansing Community College, IBEW, Lansing Board of Water and Light, and Capial Area Michigan Works!
