LANSING, Mich. — LAFCU has donated $1,000 to the Perry High School band, priming the pump on the school’s five-year, $80,000 fundraising drive to purchase new band uniforms. The ceremonial check presentation was made at the May 22 Perry Band Boosters meeting.

LAFCU makes a donation each year to a local high school band of its choice in fulfillment of its entertainment sponsorship for the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner.

“We chose the Perry High School band this year because of our continuing partnership with the school district,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU senior vice president of marketing. “We’re especially glad to take a lead role in kicking off the band’s funding drive for new uniforms that will keep the kids looking as good as they sound.”

Upon receiving the donation, Mike Foster, Perry Public Schools superintendent, expressed his gratitude and that of the school district and the community as they gear up to begin the funding drive.

“Whether our great band is at home or away at games, parades or events, they are our ambassadors,” Foster said. “We want our musicians to look their best, and new uniforms will certainly help.”

The LAFCU-Perry Public Schools partnership was forged in 2014. Students of all ages learn about personal finance through educational programming that includes portable credit union branches at the district’s school buildings staffed with assistance from students.
