Youth Solutions Youth Advisory Council Awards Inaugural Scholarship Funds at 13th Annual Career Development Conference

May 2023 - LANSING, Mich. - On April 21, 2023, the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) of Youth Solutions proudly announced the recipient of their first-ever scholarship awarded at the 13th Annual Career Development Conference held at the Lansing Center. The YAC is a group of young leaders, passionate about Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) programming, who strive to inspire and connect Michigan’s youth to a future beyond imagination. JMG is the premier program of Youth Solutions, a non-profit organization focused on equipping young people with the skills to overcome barriers and succeed in education, employment, and life.

Throughout the year, YAC members advocated and raised funds to create scholarships that would allow them to give back to their fellow JMG youth. The hard work and dedication of the YAC members have made a tangible impact on the lives of our future leaders, and it is a testament to their commitment to ensuring youth success.

“We are grateful for everything JMG has done for us, and we wanted to create something where we could give back to our fellow JMG youth,” said Nolan Henson, YAC Chairperson.

The YAC is proud to announce Jada Willis from the JMG Workforce Pathways program in Benton Harbor, MI as the recipient of this year’s scholarship. Jada has been an outstanding student and an active participant in her JMG program. She enrolled in college courses with Lake Michigan College through the dual enrollment program at her high school when she was 15. During her educational journey at Lake Michigan College, she was placed on the dean’s list and was a part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Since transferring to Morgan State University, Jada has maintained a 4.0 GPA,  and is a part of the Tau Sigma National Honor Society and the Morgan State University Choir. Additionally, Jada was awarded the title of Miss Benton Harbor, and Second Runner-Up to Miss Blossomtime 2020-2021. Jada’s achievements exemplify the purpose and mission of the YAC and the JMG program. The council is honored to support her continued success.

Sarah Jones-Moody, a member of the YAC, expressed her satisfaction in being able to raise funds for the scholarship. “Being able to provide others with the scholarship funds that we raised is very rewarding,” she said.

Youth Solutions and the Youth Advisory Council look forward to continuing their work in inspiring and connecting Michigan’s youth to achieve a future beyond imagination.
