School supply drive to ease financial burden for parents, teachers

There’s still time to donate school supplies and personal hygiene products to the Back-to-School Extravaganza coordinated by LAFCU, TWO MEN, AND A TRUCK, and The Village Lansing.

Typically, donations do not meet demand, so we would appreciate your help getting the word out.

Donations can be dropped off at a LAFCU branch and at The Village Lansing through Wednesday, Aug. 17.

LANSING, Mich. — Thanks to a collaboration between LAFCU, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, and The Village Lansing, local parents and teachers can now alleviate the financial burden of back-to-school shopping, and students can begin the new school year with the supplies and tools they need for success.

Donations can be dropped off through Wednesday, Aug. 17, at any of LAFCU’s 10 branch locations during business hours and The Village Lansing, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, noon to 5 p.m. The Village is located at 3525 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite G, in Lansing. A list of LAFCU branches can be found at www.lafcu.com/contact-us/locations/branch-locations.

“The Back-to-School Extravaganza is a fantastic initiative that helps the community start the school year on the right foot,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer, and chief diversity officer.

A backpack pick-up event for grades K-12 will take place Saturday, Aug. 20, at The Village Lansing, 9 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last.

“Back-to-school time can be stressful for students, teachers, and parents,” Ellsworth Etchison said. “We want to make things easier for our community and ensure students and teachers have the supplies needed to excel during the school year.”

School supplies needed for donation include backpacks, notebook paper, notebooks, three-ring binders, pencils, pencil bags, pens, rulers, pocket folders, one-subject notebook tablets, index cards, crayons, colored pencils, erasers, kids’ scissors, glue sticks, composition notebooks, highlighters, dry-erase markers, geometry sets, and hole punchers.

Personalized hygiene supplies needed include toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner, all in travel size. Toothbrushes, sanitary pads, disinfecting wipes, tissues, and youth face masks are also needed.
