Sparrow hospitals and Mary Free Bed at Sparrow receive national honors for patient satisfaction

LANSING, MI – E.W. Sparrow Hospital, Sparrow Specialty Hospital, Mary Free Bed at Sparrow, Sparrow Emergency Center Okemos and Sparrow’s community hospitals have earned national recognition for patient satisfaction, fueled by its leading-edge medicine and highly skilled physicians.

Sparrow Health System received 10 awards from Professional Research Consultants, Inc. The PRC Excellence in Healthcare Awards are nationally recognized honors presented to organizations and individuals who have achieved excellence in patient satisfaction scores in the previous year.

“Congratulations to all our care sites for these tremendous awards. This is a true vote of confidence from our patients. I am so proud of our team members and the exceptional work that you do every day in caring compassionately for our patients and our community,” said Constance O’Malley, RN, MSA, FACHE, regional chief operating officer, University of Michigan Health.

Sparrow Specialty Hospital (SSH) received special distinction as the Top Performer in “Overall Quality of Care” for inpatient medical services. For the sixth consecutive year, Mary Free Bed at Sparrow also earned the special Top Performer distinction in “Overall Quality of Care” for inpatient rehabilitation units. The recognitions mean SSH and Mary Free Bed at Sparrow are among the best in the nation for patient care, according to PRC’s national database of healthcare organizations.

For the second year in a row, Sparrow Emergency Center Okemos (the freestanding emergency department that opened in 2022) received the five-star award in “Overall Quality of Care.” A five-star award is given to those who score in the top 10 percent of PRC’s national database of healthcare organizations. E.W. Sparrow Hospital’s geriatric behavioral health unit received a five-star award for “Overall Quality of Care” and Sparrow Carson Hospital received the five-star award “Overall Hospital Rating.” Emergency Departments at Sparrow Carson, Sparrow Clinton, Sparrow Eaton, and Sparrow Ionia hospitals also earned five-star awards this year.

A four-star award, given to those who score in the top 25 percent nationally, was awarded to Sparrow Clinton’s inpatient services for “Overall Hospital Rating.”

As the region’s only community-based, community-owned and community-governed health system, Sparrow is proud of the care it provides to Mid-Michigan residents.
