CARSON CITY, MI – Sparrow Carson Hospital has recognized Emergency Department Nurse Craig McAlvey with the DAISY Award after he was nominated by a patient for his compassion and comforting care.
The nomination noted, “Craig was extremely compassionate, informative and comforting when working with us. He talked to us like we were family and constantly ensured us that we were in the best hands. His work with us in the ER changed our perspective on ER visits. We felt that we were exactly where we needed to be and that we fully trusted in the care we were receiving.”
McAlvey was surprised by his family, who also attended the DAISY Award ceremony.
“In my eyes, it’s a reflection of my years of experience as an ED nurse which allows me to meet patients ‘where they are’ in the moments when life isn’t the greatest,” McAlvey said. “My ED team also deserves credit for creating a work environment that allows me as a nurse to care for patients in the manner that best suits their needs. My goal each day is to make each patient feel like their needs are important and that I care about them as a person, instead of just caring for them. It’s an honor to accept this award.”

The DAISY Award is an international program established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Created in Pat’s memory, the foundation is dedicated to recognizing extraordinary nurses for the enormous difference they make in the lives of their patients every day.
