LANSING, Mich. -- Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun provided an update regarding COVID-19 and the continued efforts to slow the spread of the virus and ramp up vaccinations efforts. They were joined by Tina Freese Decker, President & CEO of Spectrum Health.

The governor announced that Michigan has surpassed the five million doses administered and reminded that all Michiganders 16 and older are now eligible to receive the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine. The governor also gave an update on the current spike in COVID-19 cases and renewed her call for the federal government to provide Michigan additional vaccines, while also urging high schools to shift to remote learning, encouraging diners to choose outdoor dining or takeout instead of indoor seating, and recommending youth sports suspend in-person activities for the next two weeks.
