Important Information on the Spirits Buy Back Program

Four Good Reasons to Request a Spirits Buy Back
  • This is a cash advance program. The Commission buys back spirits you have in inventory as of March 16, 2020.
  • You keep possession of spirits the Commission has bought back. Bottles will not be picked up.
  • You can use up this inventory and sell the products up to 90 days from when the declaration of emergency is lifted; and you can purchase more spirits during that time.
  • You pay the Commission back within 90 days after the declaration of emergency is lifted, interest free.
Remember:
  • Your application must also include a detailed list of current inventory that you’re requesting a buyback for.
  • The buyback specifically excludes expired and delisted products.
  • You as the licensee, are responsible for the custody and care of the Commission’s inventory it has bought back.
  • Any spirits that the Commission owns and that you sell after re-opening, must be paid back to the Commission.
  • After the 90-day period following the end of emergency, you must buy all spirits the Commission purchased or wait for the Commission to seize spirits before you can buy additional spirits.
Deadline to apply: Friday, April 17, 2020 at 5 pm.
Two ways to apply:
  • Online using the online fillable form and inventory form found at: www.michigan.gov/lcc
  • By first class mail that must be postmarked by Friday, April 17, 2020, at 5 pm.
  • Have more questions? Go to www.michigan.gov/lcc and click on Frequently Asked Questions.
