MEDC’s Pure Michigan Business Connect is partnering with Lakeshore Advantage and The Right Place to host a virtual Michigan Furniture Industry Symposium on Thursday, May 13, strengthening Michigan’s position as a leader in the commercial furniture manufacturing industry. This no-cost event will include an educational session on industry trends, followed by one-on-one buyer-supplier meetings to discuss procurement opportunities. Participating buyers are looking for a variety of manufacturing services, materials and parts – review the full list of needs and submit a supplier application today.

Michigan Strengthens STEM Workforce with New Initiative

The MEDC is partnering with Ann Arbor SPARK to launch the Michigan STEM Forward internship program statewide to annually place up to 450 STEM students currently enrolled in Michigan colleges into paid, STEM-focused internships across the state. The program is open to any business in the state with a STEM-focused position and builds on the success of an existing regional program run by SPARK.

Pfizer Breaks Ground on New Pharmaceutical Production Facility in Portage

Global pharmaceutical-industry leader Pfizer broke ground recently on one of the world’s most technically advanced sterile injectable pharmaceutical production facilities – known as Modular Aseptic Processing (MAP) – in Portage. MAP is a multi-story, 420,000-square-foot production facility that is expected to add approximately 450 new jobs in Kalamazoo County, serving as a catalyst for further economic development throughout southwest Michigan and underscoring the strength of Michigan’s life sciences and medical device manufacturing industry.
