Credit union to award one MI K-12 school with funds to make improvements, upgrades of their choice

LANSING, Mich. — Attention all Michigan teachers, administrators, parent-teacher groups, associations, student councils, and clubs! You have until April 30 to apply for LAFCU's Innovation for Education (LIFE) grant and you could be the lucky recipient of $10K to make upgrades and improvements to your school, ranging from adding a school garden or sensory room to purchasing updated library or music equipment.

"I want to encourage all Michigan schools to apply for this extraordinary opportunity as it could benefit many students in their respective communities," said Shelia Scott, LAFCU's community financial education and business development officer. "LAFCU understands the funding challenges schools experience as well as the cumulative challenges and stressors teachers and administrators face, so our goal is to help ease or alleviate some of that financial burden and help create environments in which students and teachers feel more at ease and excited to attend school daily."

LAFCU’s Innovation for Education Grant application requirements include:

  • All applicants must be from K-12 schools in Michigan.
  • Applications must be submitted online at www.lafcu.com/life.
  • Applications must include a brief, 3-to-5-minute video describing how the funds would be used in their school and how the update(s) would benefit their students and faculty.
  • Applications can be submitted by teachers, administrators, parent-teacher groups, associations, student councils, and clubs. If students are featured in the video entry, it's required to obtain parental consent, as the winning film may be published publicly.
  • Entrants do not have to be LAFCU members, but they must be Michigan residents and a teacher or administrators for the 2023-2024 school year at a Michigan K-12 school.

The winner will be chosen May 15, 2024.
