Tony Vernaci Vice President - Global Business Development MEDC talks about his current visits to Japan Operations throughout Michigan.
A good part of Tony's preparation includes going out now to meet with many of our existing Japanese operations. He is discovering is these companies are proud of their operations in the state and anxious to support our efforts in Japan.
In Mt Pleasant Tony met with the David Stevens, Senior VP for American Mitsuba Corporation to tour the facility and get an overview on the business.
•The primary products made at this facility are electric motors (starters, cooling fans, power windows, cruise control, brake motors, etc.…) for the automotive industry. Their largest customer is Honda Motor and they ship to all of the Honda Motor plants in the Americas.
•Mitsuba has been in Mt. Pleasant since 1986, expanded operations 5 times and now have 235,000 sq. ft. with approximately 400 employees. They also have an engineering center in Novi with 40 employees.
•This is a great example of how Michigan's efforts to attract companies from around the world are repeat customers and not a one-time event. By having the business fundamentals to first attract companies like Amercan Mutsuba and an environment that encourages growth and sets them up for success, then they increase their investments and everybody wins.
