Food Bank Council to use donation toward COVID-19 demand

LANSING, MI – Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) today joined a growing list of corporate and individual donors trying to meet an extraordinary demand on Michigan’s food bank network.

FCA’s donation, in partnership with the Food Bank Council of Michigan, will help address youth food insecurity related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since school closures in March, the Food Bank Council of Michigan has served an additional 1 million children and teens who rely on school meals for food.

“There has never been a more important moment to help children and their families with vital needs in our communities than during this time of great uncertainty," said FCA CEO Mike Manley.

The FCA donation comes during the launch of a virtual statewide food drive, www.MichiganFoodDrive.com, that will help the state’s seven regional food banks continue to provide meals using drive-through distribution. In addition, donors can purchase senior quarantine boxes with each providing 22 nutritious meals to vulnerable older residents.

“Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has come along side us at a time of unprecedented need,” said Dr. Phil Knight, executive director of the Food Bank Council of Michigan. “Their donation, and the generosity of so many others, help makes sure that food insecurity is one worry we can take off the table for Michiganders during this crisis.”
