Recent Free public art reception: “My Dreams Are Becoming Real”
Paintings by local refugee youth in Samaritas' Refugee Foster Care program were be on display at Tabooli in East Lansing for World Refugee Awareness Week, June 17-24.
Attendees were invited to stop by the reception on June 18 from 6-7 p.m. to hear more about the personal stories that inspired the artwork.
WHY: World Refugee Awareness Week is a Lansing-wide initiative to celebrate refugees living in the community. Samaritas has always let youth in the program dictate an event to celebrate the week, and this is the fourth year that youth in the refugee foster care program have chosen to host an art exhibit. After being showcased at Tabooli, the exhibit will be on display at Delta Dental’s headquarters in Okemos. Delta Dental sponsored the program and covered the cost of the art equipment to bring to life the artists’ visions.
