Dust off the recipe book, and take out the aprons.

It’s time for the Healthy Detroit Family Recipe Contest.

To bring families together over healthy food, Delta Dental of Michigan is launching its first ever recipe contest in the Detroit area.

Families with children in grades 1–5 from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties are invited to submit a 60-second video explaining their idea for a healthy recipe that includes at least one item from the following seasonal ingredient list:Image result for forgotten harvest michigan

  • Apples
  • Pumpkin
  • Squash
  • Greens/lettuce
  • Carrots
  • Beans

The public will vote on Facebook for their top 10 finalists. Then, the final 10 will be narrowed down to a final three determined by Delta Dental and Forgotten Harvest.

The final three will be invited to participate in the grand finale event, a cook-off at Forgotten Harvest on November 13 from 6-8 p.m.

Four local chefs, including Max Hardy from Coop & River Bistro; Devon Follbaum from Fleming’s Steak House; Les Molnar from Green Dot Stables and Jessi Patuano from Gather will judge the dishes at the event and name a grand prize, second and third place winner.

Prizes provided by Delta Dental include a grand prize: $1,000 for the child’s school and a $1,000 Meijer gift card, plus an invite to appear on “Live in the D” on WDIV-TV; second place: a $500 Meijer gift card; and third place: a $250 Meijer gift card.

Video submissions will be accepted through October 19.
