Last week, Automation Alley was honored to receive $12 million in grant funding from Oakland and Macomb Counties to address the urgent need to move companies into the digital manufacturing age of Industry 4.0 as fast as possible to help improve our region’s manufacturing agility and response to COVID-19 and future disruptions. The Personal Protective Equipment Resilience Grant Program will position our region as an agile, digital-ready essential source of manufactured goods in times of national crisis while providing much-needed PPE for Oakland and Macomb Counties’ first responders, health care professionals and citizens.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a wake-up call for the global manufacturing industry—and this crisis certainly is not over. While Michigan companies rose to the challenge to provide critical PPE and other essential goods like ventilators and sanitizers to the community, we must ensure the continued resiliency of manufacturing in our state.
We are grateful to Oakland County Executive David Coulter and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel for their leadership in recognizing the need for rapid ramp-up to Industry 4.0 in our immediate manufacturing base. As Michigan’s Industry 4.0 knowledge center and the World Economic Forum’s Advanced Manufacturing Hub for North America, Automation Alley has become the go-to source for advanced manufacturing in the digital era, and this grant will ensure our ecosystem is equipped with the digital technologies to combat this crisis now and, beyond COVID-19, positions our region as a global leader for innovation led by smart and agile manufacturing.
We look forward to getting to work with Michigan’s strong manufacturing base to make it happen! For those Oakland and Macomb county-based manufacturers interested in applying, visit
