The Michigan state average is still up 8 cents compared to last month

DEARBORN, Mich., (November 15, 2021 ) - Gas prices in Michigan are down 3 cents compared to last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.40 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 8 cents more than this time last month and $1.33 more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $51 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $12 from when prices were their highest last January.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 1.6 million bbl to 212.7 million bbl. Gasoline demand also dropped from 9.5 million b/d to 9.26 million b/d.

At the close of Thursday’s formal trading session, WTI increased by 25 cents to settle at $81.59. Although crude prices reversed course due to fluctuations in the market, crude prices declined earlier last week as inflation fears weigh on the market. Additionally, after the EIA reported that total domestic crude supply increased by 1 million bbl to 435.1 million bbl, prices also fell. However, according to EIA’s data, the total domestic crude supply is still down 11 percent compared to the previous year at this time, putting elevated price pressure on crude.

“The decrease in demand has contributed to some slight price relief at the pump for drivers,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “However, pump prices will likely remain elevated as long as oil prices are above $80 per barrel.”

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.38 per gallon.  This price is 2 cents less than last week’s average but still $1.33 more than this same time last year.
