Funding dedicated to increasing the FAFSA completion rate for the class of 2022
LANSING, Mich. — Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) has awarded $108,341 in FAFSA Completion Grants to 26 grantees. Grantees include high schools, career tech centers, community-based organizations and higher education institutions from across the state.
Local Tech Startup Gets into Top Global Accelerator, Receiving $500,000 Investment
(GRAND RAPIDS, MI) - Grand Rapids-based tech start-up and Start Garden tenant Payload CMS has been accepted into and received a $500,000 investment from highly competitive tech accelerator Y Combinator. With an acceptance rate of less than 3% and alumni like Airbnb, Dropbox, Doordash, Instacart, and Reddit, Y Combinator is more difficult to get into than Harvard.
LANSING, Mich. – Monday, Governor Whitmer joined Pfizer Inc. in announcing that it will further strengthen its commitment to Michigan manufacturing with a $120 million investment at its Kalamazoo, Michigan, facility, enabling U.S.-based production in support of its COVID-19 oral treatment, PAXLOVID, which will create more than 250 additional high-skill jobs at Pfizer’s Kalamazoo site. This investment builds on Governor Whitmer’s commitment to growing Michigan's economy and creating good-paying jobs for Michiganders across the state.

LANSING, Mich. – Tuesday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to announce Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) approval of support for a new semiconductor technician apprenticeship program intended to strengthen the pipeline of the semiconductor workforce. MSF also approved $1.5 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Coronavirus, Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) funds grant that will be used to plan and develop the program.
In January 2021, Cinnaire established the COVID-19 Resident Rental Relief Fund to provide support to renters throughout our footprint suffering from financial hardship due to the pandemic. Cinnaire contributed $250,000 and Delta Dental, the nation’s largest provider of dental benefits, provided a $250,000 contribution to support the COVID-19 Resident Rental Relief Fund. While eviction moratoria helped to keep people housed during the height of the pandemic, many low-income renters faced job loss and income reductions accruing large debts they were not able to repay without additional support.

MI Food Bank Council leader credited for efforts during pandemic
LANSING, Mich. – The heroics of many individuals during the pandemic helped feed the minds, bodies, and souls of a countless number of Michiganders. Among them is Dr. Phil Knight, executive director of the Food Bank Council of Michigan (FBCM).
For his leadership in providing access to food during these challenging times, Knight received a COVID-19 Governor’s Service Award. His tireless efforts, along with those in the seven regional food banks that make up the Council, delivered a record-breaking number of meals to families, children, and seniors.
