LANSING, MI –Sparrow Clinton and Sparrow Ionia hospitals and many Sparrow Medical Group practices throughout the Mid-Michigan region have received 2019 Governor’s Awards of Excellence for outstanding quality and Patient safety.
The hospitals and practices were among more than 130 Michigan hospitals, physician practices, nursing homes, and other facilities honored by the nonprofit MPRO on Wednesday at Eagle Eye Golf Course in Bath Township.
The award recognizes participants for their dedication and success in improving healthcare quality and Patient safety in Michigan. To be eligible for the award, participants must have achieved, maintained and continually improved in specific and rigorous milestones related to the award they received.
Sparrow Clinton and Sparrow Ionia were recognized for Effective Reporting and Measuring for Critical Access Hospitals.
“Our hospital’s success is a direct reflection of our outstanding Caregiver team and our commitment to our mission of providing quality, compassionate care to every Patient, every time,” said Linda Reetz, Sparrow Ionia Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President, Patient Services.
“They work collaboratively to improve the Patient experience by effectively reporting and measuring data metrics. Through this analysis, the multidisciplinary teams have been able to achieve and sustain evidence-based Patient care for the Patients we serve.”
SMG practices earned the following awards:
Diabetes management: SMG DeWitt, Ionia, Ithaca, Lansing, Muir, Okemos and St. John.
Heart health: Central Residency, DeWitt, Eastside, Holt, Ionia, Ithaca, Lansing, Lansing Internal Medicine, Mason, North, Okemos, Potterville, St. John, Saranac, West, and Williamston.
Antibiotic stewardship: Ashley, Carson City, Central Residency, DeWitt, Eastside, Fowler, Greenville, Holt, Ionia, Ithaca, Lansing, Lansing Internal Medicine, Mason, Mason Residency, Muir, North, Okemos, Portland, Potterville, St. John, Saranac, Senior Health, Stanton, West, and Williamston.
The numerous Governor’s Awards of Excellence represent how Sparrow is transforming care, pursuing best practices, and delivering nationally recognized care to improve the health of the Mid-Michigan region. Sparrow is committed to being a national leader in quality and Patient experience.
The Governor’s Aware of Excellence was first developed in 2003 by MPRO, a national leader in healthcare quality improvement and medical review.
The current award is based upon work from 2017-2018 in the following areas:
• Improving heart health
• Increasing adult immunizations
• Lowering the risk of infection in hospitals
• Effective reporting and measurement
• Improving care in nursing homes
• Increasing identification of behavioral health conditions
• Improving diabetes management
