Lansing high school is recognized for its innovative approaches in a blended learning environment

OKEMOS, Mich. – NexTech High School of Lansing has been selected as a finalist for the 2020 Innovation and Vision Award by the Governor John Engler Center for Charter Schools and Central Michigan University. NexTech is being awarded for its innovative approaches in a blended learning environment to fit the ever-changing needs of their community.

"The blended learning format at NexTech gives us an opportunity to implement innovative learning opportunities for our students,” said Jamie DeWitt, principal of NexTech Lansing. “I believe this unique teaching style has helped us be strong advocates and educators for our students in the world of COVID-19 and beyond."

The Innovation and Vision Awards serve as an opportunity for CMU partner schools to celebrate what makes them unique and increase funding for their school. The awards recognize charter schools implementing innovative programs and partnerships to provide opportunities for their students.

NexTech is one of three finalists for the competition. First place recipients will be awarded $3,000, second place will be awarded $2,000 and third place will be awarded $1,000. The prize money will be distributed following the contest voting during the 2020-21 school year.

Winners for the Innovation and Vision Award contests are determined by attendee voting at the annual conference. The 2020 conference has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual voting may be used to determine the place of each of the finalists in the contest.
