MIOSHA has announced an increase in enforcement of COVID-19 workplace safety requirements in the manufacturing and construction industries. A State Emphasis Program (SEP) for these industries begins this week and is expected to run through the end of this year.

During the SEP, MIOSHA inspectors will focus on evaluating an employer’s compliance with MIOSHA COVID-19 Emergency Rules, including:

  • Having and following a COVID-19 Preparedness and Response plan, which must include employee COVID-19 risk categories
  • Conducting daily health screenings of employees and contractors
  • Isolating employees with symptoms and quarantining those who have had close contact with a COVID-19 positive person
  • Requiring employees to wear face coverings
  • Implementing enhanced cleaning protocols when employees display COVID-19 symptoms
  • Maintaining social distancing in the workplace

MIOSHA staff will conduct random enforcement inspections at manufacturing establishments and construction sites. Citations may result in penalties of up to $7,000.
