LANSING - The Great Lakes PFAS Action Network Thursday commended the Michigan Senate for unanimously passing Senate Bill 565, a water infrastructure supplemental that will provide communities $3.34 billion in funding for lead pipe replacement, dam repairs, sewer and water upgrades and PFAS contamination cleanup. Among other water investments, $100 million is allocated to cleaning up PFAS contamination in communities across Michigan.

"As communities across our state grapple with toxic PFAS contamination in their water, this legislation is an important step toward protecting their health and cleaning up contaminated sites,” said Sandy Wynn-Stelt, co-chair of the Great Lakes PFAS Action Network. “Clean, safe and affordable water is not a partisan issue, and the fact that this bill passed unanimously out of the Michigan Senate is a testament to that. We urge lawmakers in the house to swiftly pass this critical funding."

The funding for PFAS will primarily be used for remediation grants, for which communities can apply to clean up contaminated sites where no party is able to be held responsible for cleanup costs.
