Getting Buyer-Ready with PMBC and PTACs

Connecting Michigan businesses to procurement opportunities is why Pure Michigan Business Connect (PMBC) exists. Whether it’s at our buyer/supplier matchmaking summits, networking events, regional pitch competitions, accelerator programs or through our PMBC Access and Certification Grant, PMBC aims to facilitate connections to purchasers at every chance we get. And, when we work alongside partners like the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs) of Michigan, we’re able to make those connections go even further.

If you’re a supplier who has been selected for a one-on-one meeting with a buyer at a PMBC summit or just getting in front of a buyer for the first time at a networking event, being prepared to discuss your business is essential. But we know pitching your business takes practice. That’s why PMBC encourages suppliers to use the no-cost services that PTACs offer to Michigan businesses; resources like capability statement preparation and elevator speech creation are just two of the many opportunities that suppliers can access through a statewide network of PTACs.

PTACs offer assistance to companies seeking to do business with governmental entities (local, state, federal) or companies that are part of the supply chain, including developing or updating a capability statement in preparation for Meet the Buyer and similar events. Having a polished capability statement provides a potential buyer with a resume of your company, highlighting your product or service offerings in a concise format – often the first and most significant impression a supplier will make. Once a supplier has a capability statement ready to go, participating in the bidding and proposal process comes easier.

Michigan Suppliers Find Support

Great Lakes Sound & Vibration

Defense manufacturer Great Lakes Sound & Vibration (GLSV) has broken sales goals and expanded with assistance from Michigan Economic Development Corporation to support military contracts and international trade. The Northwest Michigan Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) has been a large supporter of GLSV since 2011, helping the company land new U.S. government contracts and grants.

TentCraft

From making custom prints for the event industry to medical tents for COVID-19 response efforts, TentCraft has retooled and revived its company to support frontline workers while keeping its workforce on the job through a global pandemic. Through the MEDC’s PMBC COVID-19 Emergency Access and Retooling Grants program, TentCraft received a $75,000 grant to help it pivot to provide Personal Protective Equipment for frontline workers while continuing to pay its workers. Thanks to PTAC’s individualized and step-by-step support to help it navigate the government contracting process, TentCraft was also able to secure various contracts for medical tents to support government efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
