Supporting Michigan’s Small Business SuccessMEDC logo

MEDC is proud to support Michigan's 900,000+ small businesses, which employ nearly half of the state’s workforce. This past week, Gov. Whitmer proclaimed May 1-7 as Small Business Week in Michigan, celebrating the resiliency and contributions of small businesses and entrepreneurs. For every $100 spent at a local business, approximately $68 stays in the local economy, fueling business and job growth. Small businesses like Marquette’s Able Medical Devices and Empire’s Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate are experiencing tremendous growth thanks to support from the MEDC. If you’re looking for additional training to take your business to the next level, check out MEDC's partner, Michigan Small Business Development Center’s upcoming webinars.

Tools of the Trade: Michigan Helps Businesses Go International

In honor of World Trade Week this week, Michigan celebrates the importance and benefits of global trade on our state’s economy. With a globally connected location and robust industry supply chain, $55.5 billion in total goods was exported from Michigan in 2021 alone. And while Michigan is home to many global corporations, the state’s small business community is actively involved in contributing to Michigan’s presence in the global market – nearly 89 percent of Michigan exporters are small businesses. MEDC’s International Trade Program offers a wealth of expertise and resources available to help Michigan businesses grow within the state and internationally.
