LANSING, Mich. — LAFCU has invited the public to participate in LAFCU Shred Day to help fight identity theft, Saturday, Oct. 13. It is 10 a.m. to noon at LAFCU’s West Lansing Branch and headquarters, 106 N. Marketplace Blvd.

LAFCU HQ-West Branch-2017-1“We’re encouraging LAFCU members and the public to be vigilant in safely destroying documents with sensitive information to avoid fraud,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer. “Fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated in response to increased security efforts. So, it can be the little things that help protect one’s financial identity.”

Each person can bring up to 10 Bankers Boxes of materials to be shred at no cost.

Recommended materials include anything that has identifying information such as financial, medical and Social Security account numbers. This includes documents, receipts, address labels, bills, insurance claims, tax forms, hard drives, SD and SIM cards, mobile phones and thumb drives.
