LANSING, Mich., Nov. 2021 — The K-12 Alliance of Michigan Tuesday released the following statement from Executive Director Robert McCann in response to members of Congress reintroducing the IDEA Full Funding Act, which would increase direct support for public schools and students with disabilities.

“Every student deserves the best education and support, regardless of their individual needs. While the federal IDEA Act set a course to ensure students with disabilities have their individual learning needs met, the federal government has not followed through on their promise to fund their share of the program since its creation more than 40 years ago. Reintroducing the IDEA Full Funding Act is a reminder of the need for our federal government to step up and finally meet that obligation, and we’re grateful for Michigan’s own Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters for co-sponsoring this legislation and continuing to fight on behalf of our schools and students.”
