LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) conducted a complaint inspection of Jasper Weller, LLC in Wyoming, MI, resulting in citations with penalties totaling $117,900 for failing to uphold a safe and healthy worksite, potentially leading to serious injury.

Jasper Weller, LLC performs automotive transmission repairs and warehouses salvaged transmissions. An on-site inspection was conducted by MIOSHA’s General Industry Safety and Health Division from Sept. 12 through Oct. 14, 2019, and found the company allegedly committed one serious violation and two willful-serious violations.

“We determined that the employer was not taking the appropriate steps to protect employees and comply with applicable rules,” MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman said. “Preventing exposures to hazards for hardworking Michiganders is our utmost priority. These citations are meant to ensure employers take the necessary precautions to establish and maintain work environments where everyone can return home safe.”

The citations against Jasper Weller, LLC are as follows:

• One serious violation for using a powered industrial truck outside of its rated capacity. 

• Two willful-serious violations one for transporting transmission cores and casts in modified baskets that do not prevent them from falling out during normal movements with a powered industrial truck and another for improperly securing transmissions to pallets when being stored on racks.

Prior to this latest inspection, MIOSHA has not investigated Jasper Weller, LLC in the past five years. The company has 15 working days from receipt of the MIOSHA citations to contest the violations and penalties.
