As 2021 comes to a close, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone that has supported us throughout the year. In many respects, it was much better than 2020, but it was certainly not a year without its own unique challenges.

AIAM Federal R&amp;D Tax Credit and Cybersecurity Webinar
 
AIAM recently held an important webinar to provide critical information to companies on the Federal R&D tax credit and requirements for the upcoming CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) being rolled out by the Department of Defense. Speakers from UHY, Eaton, the Michigan Defense Center and the University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute presented details on each of these topics. Our Technology Expo is back! It will be held at Grand Valley State University in downtown Grand Rapids on March 17, 2022. Exhibit space is available for companies to showcase their amazing technology that is changing the industry. The expo will wrap up with a premium business networking reception, giving attendees an opportunity to enjoy food and refreshments as they stroll through the expo floor to engage with aerospace executives from leading global companies in a casual setting. A limited number of students from various engineering and computer science disciplines at GVSU will be present to discuss the possibility for internships, co-ops and permanent positions with your company. You don’t want to miss this event!

Women's Aviation Career Symposium (WACS)
 
The Women's Aviation Career Symposium (WACS) will be held on February 19, 2022, from 9 AM - 2 PM at Western Michigan University's College of Aviation in Battle Creek, MI. The event is open to women only from high school juniors up to retirees interested in careers in aerospace. PMBC Access and Certification Grant Application & International MI-STEP Funds
 
PMBC Access and Certification Grant
 
The PMBC Access and Certification Grant is designed to break down barriers preventing Michigan businesses from winning purchase orders. The program has three objectives:
 
  • Increase supplier access to local and global procurement opportunities
  • Improve competitiveness in advanced manufacturing for Michigan small businesses
  • Enhance supplier capabilities and open doors to new industry verticals
 
Up to $15,000 in assistance is available to offset 75% of pre-approved expenses per fiscal year. Your company will pay for the certification or software, and the MEDC will reimburse 75% of those expenses after receiving valid proof of payment. Companies must meet the following eligibility criteria to qualify for PMBC Grant. Click here to learn more.
 
International Trade MI-STEP Funds
 
MEDC’s International Trade program has a wealth of expertise and resources available to help Michigan businesses grow within the state and internationally. One of these many resources is Michigan’s State Trade Expansion Program or MI-STEP.
 
The program has three primary objectives:
  • Increase the number of Michigan small businesses that export
  • Increase the dollar value of Michigan exports
  • Increase the number of Michigan small businesses exploring significant new trade opportunities
 
Eligible companies receive 75 percent reimbursement for export activities or up to $15,000 annually through the program. Click here to learn more.

The Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) is working with Consumers Energy (CE) and DTE Energy (DTE) to provide enhanced energy services to small businesses across Michigan with the SBAM Energy Solutions program. Small businesses have access to special services that can help your small business become more energy efficient. The good news is that you don’t have to do it alone! SBAM Energy Solutions provides you with personalized assistance as you navigate the ins and outs of energy management.
