State funding to support infrastructure assessment, mapping at former Delphi site

The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce today announced the receipt of $482,506 in grants supporting the organization’s efforts to support economic and community growth.

The grants include:

• Defense Logistics Agency, $345,006 (Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Procurement Technical Assistance Center)
• Community Foundation of Greater Flint, $80,500 (TeenQuest/Summer Youth Initiative)
• Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Michigan Site Readiness Program, $36,000 (Economic Development)
• The Whiting Foundation, $10,000 (YouthQuest)
• Child Welfare Society, $7,000 (YouthQuest)
• GM Summer Youth Corps/United Way, $2,500 (YouthQuest)
• Burroughs Memorial Trust, $1,000 (TeenQuest/Summer Youth Initiative)
• Kiwanis Club of Flint, $500 (Summer Youth Initiative)

“We are thankful for the support of our funders,” said Tim Herman, CEO at the Flint & Genesee Chamber. “Their generosity allows us to continue delivering programming that supports the success of our current and future workers, businesses and community.”

The funding received includes a site readiness grant from the new Michigan Build Ready Sites program at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The program aims to assist with the development or enhancement of industrial sites to help them get closer to having Vetted Site Standards and make them more competitive during the site selection process.

The Flint & Genesee Chamber will use this grant to conduct an infrastructure assessment and mapping project of Flint’s former Delphi site. It will also support the development of marketing materials aimed at site selectors.

“We see great potential with the former Delphi site,” Herman said. “Once we complete this assessment and mapping project, the property will meet all vetted sites criteria set by the MEDC and achieve its ‘shovel-ready’ status.”

Other grants received support the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Procurement Technical Assistance Center, or PTAC, which provides procurement counseling and technical assistance to companies interested in doing business with local, state and federal governments.

They also benefit three of the Chamber’s youth and teen employment programs, which are administered by the Genesee Area Focus Fund and made possible with primary financial support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. These include YouthQuest, TeenQuest and Summer Youth Initiative (SYI).
