Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi of Kenya became Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD on September 1, 2013. Immediately prior, Kituyi was Chief Executive of the Kenya Institute of Governance, based in Nairobi. He served as Kenya's Minister of Trade and Industry from 2002 to 2007.

Developing entrepreneurship is a key element of strategies that support the attainment of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG9, to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
