The Election 20XX Michigan Legislative Candidate Forum is the first in a series of electoral justice events leading up to the November 2018 general election that are organized by Black Lives Matter Lansing and Black Lives Matter Michigan.
Candidates running for US Senate District 23 and House of Representatives Districts 67 and 68 respond to questions generated by the Election 20XX Community and from the audience.
Election 20XX is a non-partisan political education and community engagement campaign to promote the importance of voting in every election. "We believe every election matters. From the block club to the White House, who represents us matters," said campaign organizer Angela Waters Austin. Election 20XX will educate the community on all candidates and their planned strategies to promote justice, opportunity and equitable outcomes for all. Additionally, Election 20XX will educate residents on the track record of current elected officials on issues that affect their ability to achieve their American dream.
This episode will be the first of four coming out of the June 26, 2018, forum. Additional Election 20XX sessions will occur leading up to election day, and will lead to additional sets.
