Regional BusinessLANSING, MI, July 1, 2015 - Douglas J Companies, a leader in the Salon and Spa Industry, announced today that they are opening a Salon and Spa in Eastwood Town Center, an open-air shopping mall and lifestyle center located in the northern part of Greater Lansing, approximately 3.5 miles (10 min) from their current Lansing salon.

Opening a salon in Eastwood Town Center will provide close proximity to restaurants and retailers. Scott Weaver, Douglas J Companies CEO explained, “In making our decision to move forward with this type of development, we looked at a lot of research on how this would service our current guests as well as attract new guests. Many of our current guests are currently located on the north and west side of the Lansing area. With this location we will also be able to attract new guests for areas around Greater Lansing who would love to visit us, but didn’t want to travel to our current locations.

When this situation presented itself, Scott and his brother, T.J., were also faced with making a decision on renewing the lease on their East Lansing Salon, which expires at the end of the year. They have been in their current location since 1995, first as a school, and evolving it to what is now the East Lansing salon. The salon has had challenges growing for several reasons, including difficult parking and no main retail front for walk-in traffic.

With the opportunity to join Eastwood Town Center and the fact that their East Lansing salon lease is expiring at the end of the year, Weaver says the timing couldn’t have worked out any better. So they have made the decision not to renew their lease and to move forward with Eastwood Town Center plans.

Douglas J will be transitioning their East Lansing team members to Eastwood Town Center with the goal of being open for this holiday season. They have already started the process – drafting a new lease, working on permits and engaging with designers as well as architects to help build out their new space, which will reside next to the Apple store.

Weaver concluded, “Being in this area will create the ability to offer our guests a full menu of services, including skin and spa care. They’ll also be able to enjoy a lifestyle shopping experience. It’s ultimately about taking care of our guests, our team and our community that gives us the opportunity to build careers and run a business.”

In addition, Douglas J announced that plans are taking shape with the Okemos property purchased directly across the street from their Salon and Day Spa. Working with the township and municipalities, construction is anticipated to commence in early 2016.
