Our Response to COVID-19 and the Tax Deadline Extension

Like the rest of the world, we are closely following developments related to COVID-19. We are proud to see people across our region caring for and helping each other as we navigate this unprecedented time together.

We are still conducting business and our top priority is keeping our employees and clients safe. We are following both our local government and the CDC’s recommendations and guidelines closely.

Our firm’s technology enables us to work remotely while continuing to provide our clients with the service they need during this time. We have suspended in-person meetings. We believe these steps are critical to protect our team members and their families, while doing our part to help minimize the spread of the virus.

All upcoming events will be postponed and rescheduled. We will, however, look for ways to host webinars and other virtual events to provide you with valuable information.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Treasury and IRS yesterday released IRS Notice 2020-17, the much-anticipated April 15, 2020, payment relief measure. Individuals and businesses are still required to file a tax return or extension by April 15. However, the income tax payment deadlines for individual returns and trusts, with a payment due date of April 15, are extended until July 15, for up to $1 million of aggregate 2019 balance due plus first quarter 2020 estimated payments. For C corporations, income tax payment deadlines are extended until July 15, for up to $10 million of their 2019 tax due. We will continue our efforts to file returns in a timely manner for those in a refund situation. Things are changing rapidly, and we will update you as we learn more.

Transmittal & Delivery of Documents

To assist with our safety initiatives, we ask that you send us your materials electronically. There are two methods to securely transfer your documents to us:

  • Sign in to your ShareFile portal. Your CSH advisor can send you a link to your portal if you need assistance accessing it.
  • Use our FileDrop tool based on the office you work with.

Additionally, we recommend you take advantage of the option to e-sign and receive e-delivery of your tax returns this year. Your tax advisor is available to support you and accommodate your needs, whatever they may be.

All of our electronic client tools can be accessed here.

You aren’t alone in this and we are committed to doing our part to help you through it. Please reach out to your CSH advisor with questions.
