MMDC logoA message from Middle Michigan Development Corporation's Jim McBryde

As you may know, last week MMDC cancelled our Quarterly Breakfast scheduled for this morning in response to the COVID-19 virus. We at Middle Michigan Development Corporation are concerned about the health and wellbeing of our entire community. We are urging all businesses in our area and people who follow our social media posts to stay up-to-date with the latest information on steps you can take to stay healthy. You can find great information at the following links:

In addition, we have been getting many questions from our business community about how to respond to the challenges and uncertainty caused by COVID-19. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is providing a variety of excellent resources to assist you and your business as you plan your next steps. Please review the provided resources that specifically address issues related to COVID-19: https://puremi.ch/2TYVVza.

Also, Governor Whitmer issued Executive Order 2020-10 yesterday to expand eligibility for unemployment benefits and Michigan’s Work Share program in the wake of COVID-19. Executive Order 2020-10 can be found here: https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/MIEOG/2020/03/16/file_attachments/1401944/EO%202020-10.pdf.

If your company expects to have any short-term layoffs as a result of the COVID-19 measures being implemented, you also may want to register and request a 15 day or 45 day waiver to ensure your employees will be able to come back to you at the end of the layoff. This short-term layoff waiver program allows employers to request a waiver for their employees to register for work and be searching for work during the specified period of time of the approved waiver.

Additional unemployment resources for employees can be found here. Eligible employees should apply for unemployment benefits online at Michigan.gov/UIA

Please let me know if you have any questions about upcoming business meetings and if there is any way that we at MMDC can be of service. We will get through this!
