Cinnaire has been named a Detroit Free Press Top Workplace 2020. The Detroit Free Press has recognized 150 companies and organizations as Top Workplaces based on the results of an employee survey. The Detroit Free Press partnered with Philadelphia-based Energage, an employee research and culture technology firm, to determine the winners. The survey measured factors such as company leadership, communication, career opportunities, working environment, managerial skills, pay and benefits.

“At Cinnaire, we intentionally create a culture that puts our people first and focuses on caring, respect, integrity, diversity and inclusion,” said Mark McDaniel, Cinnaire president & CEO. “This award, driven by input from our team, affirms the outcome that can be achieved when you prioritize people and relationships over transactions. Our culture has allowed us to cultivate a team of passionate and spirited individuals that share a common belief – all people deserve the opportunities to live in healthier communities.”

Cinnaire was ranked #27 out of 65 companies on the 2020 Small Top Workplaces list. The ranking is based on feedback analyzed by Energage’s objective criteria. Employees answer 24 questions regarding issues related to workplace culture. The survey also gives participating companies insights about what makes them unique.

Cinnaire provides full-time employees with a number of unique benefits including unlimited paid time off, weekly organic fresh fruit deliveries, an employee wellness program, an on-site fitness center in the Lansing headquarters, company paid cell phone service, onsite dry-cleaning pickup and delivery and a comprehensive benefits package. An open-door policy and regularly scheduled lunches with the CEO promote transparency and open communication. Volunteer initiatives with company-paid volunteer time provide staff with opportunities to give back to the communities Cinnaire serves.

In the current pandemic environment, Cinnaire’s first priority is the health and wellbeing of their team. All staff members are equipped and encouraged to work from home.

“We have established new programs and opportunities for our team to stay engaged and connected during the pandemic,” said Jim Peffley, Cinnaire Chief Strategy Officer. “From Cinnaire’s cyber lounge to virtual water cooler breaks, our staff continues to create out-of-the-box opportunities to come together during these times of great change. This award is a reflection of their commitment to our mission and to the people and communities we serve.”

Cinnaire maintains a diversity and inclusion policy designed to provide an environment that empowers the authentic expression of diverse voices and celebrates a workforce that reflects the communities the company serves. Career opportunities are posted throughout diversity recruitment websites. The recruitment process includes steps to determine and ensure that candidates are a good fit for the culture. New employees participate in leadership training, attend cultural competency workshops and are given books that support the company culture. Cinnaire staff use the ZAPP process to internally acknowledge random acts of kindness and personal and professional accomplishments.

Staff members developed Cinnaire Cares, a 100% employee driven initiative that gives team members an opportunity to support communities and community organizations financial and through direct service activities – from cleanup and beautification to hurricane relief to cash awards for non-profits. Since Cinnaire Cares in 2017, the initiative has raised more than $70,000 to directly support 30 mission-driven organizations across our geography.
