THE 2021 AUTOMOTIVE HERITAGE AWARDS ARE ON!

While the calendar for automotive events continues to be uncertain, we learned to adjust last year with a virtual awards event hosted by the Automotive Hall of Fame. We may do that again or may partner with one of the other events of late summer. In any event, the awards are on.

The Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s, our traditional venue, is selling advanced tickets. The M1 Concourse in Pontiac is planning major events this season including the official alternative to the Detroit Auto Show, or NAIAS. Many events are going ahead with planning. Most are still at risk of public health limitations.

Fortunately, our Awards are not dependent on a particular venue. So, we’ll keep those options open for now. In the meantime, let’s officially launch the project.

Created and Produced by the Automotive Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit.

This will be the fourth presentation of the Automotive Heritage Awards, founded in 2018 to carry on the tradition of the International Automotive Media Competition (IAMC). We’ve narrowed that original focus to honor automotive “heritage” journalism, that is, regarding history, culture, and aesthetics, and we’ve added a couple vehicle awards.

The AHA features four distinct competitions:

- The Automotive Heritage Journalism Competition  ENTRIES OPEN NOW! – for those who produce content with an automotive heritage theme. We’ve adjusted the categories a bit from last year, deleting a couple of lesser interest and adding one for “Innovations.” Please, no entries featuring modern vehicles. All platforms and formats welcome. Entry fee: $50. Alex Buchan-deigned trophies for best in each class. Entry deadline is May 31.

- The AHF Future Collectible Vehicle of the Year, carried on from the award presented for years by the Automotive History Collection at the Detroit Public Library. Our late friend and colleague, Mike Davis, founded the award for a vehicle that we’re likely to see at a car show 25 years from now: new or significantly redesigned, available in the U.S., selling for less than $100,000, and introduced the previous year. You may nominate a vehicle by using the Contact Us link on the website. We’ll do research as well and a ballot will be distributed to all our contacts for a vote.

- The AHF Concept Vehicle of the Year is managed by Brian Baker, VP of Education and Principal Historian at the Automotive Hall of Fame, former lead designer at GM, and Board Member at the Automotive Heritage Foundation. The decision is made by a jury of internationally known and respected designers. Manufacturers are welcome to nominate their candidate at the Contact Us link on the website.

- The AHF Lifetime Achievement Award is the most important one we do and continues the award presented by the IAMC. The decision is made as much as possible by past winners. The honoree gets a beautiful Alex Buchan-designed trophy and his/her name is added to the permanent trophy that resides at the LeMay – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington.
