IF IT'S MAY, ROGER PENSKE IS RACING!

In late March, new Indy track owner
and 2015 Automotive Hall of Fame Inductee Roger Penske announced that the Memorial Classic race would, for the first time ever, be run in August. How can I make it through this pandemic without racing? IRacing, which first hit the scene in September of 2004, is the virtual real deal.

A GIFT FROM HENRY FORD

A long-term loan from Hall of Fame inductee Clarence W. Avery’s grandson, Avery H. Greene, this gold Waltham pocket watch, a gift from Henry Ford to Avery in 1925, has been on display at Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Michigan.

STAFF PICKS

The Automotive Hall of Fame offers free admission and movie Fridays once a month. During this time of closure, our staff would like to share some of our favorite movie titles that we screen at the Hall for your enjoyment at home.

One you may have missed is the 1988 film Tucker: The Man and his Dream, based on Automotive Hall of Fame 1999 Inductee Preston Tucker and the inspiring story of the creation of the Tucker Safety Car also known as the Torpedo.

This Francis Ford Coppola film features another Hall of Fame alum, 2014 Inductee Alex S. Tremulis, the designer behind the futuristic Tucker automobile. Stream now on YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Google Play.

The Automotive Hall of Fame has more than 800 individuals that are honored for their contributions to the automotive industry from all over the globe.

A MESSAGE FROM THE HALL

During the current pandemic, we are limited in our ability to move about freely. Our identities are closely tied to our ability to go where and when we choose – in other words, to be mobile. As usual, the automotive industry is stepping up with innovative solutions, including tomorrow’s historic virtual Indy race.

The automotive industry has many such examples of ingenuity that impact daily life in unexpected ways. Ford Motor Company created the moving assembly line, and Henry Ford couldn’t have done it without Clarence Avery, who took a 728 minute assembly to just 93 minutes.

At the Automotive Hall of Fame, we preserve global motor vehicle history, AND we’re dedicated to shaping a better future. That’s why we offer a scholarship program to support and encourage the next generation. If you’re interested in a career in mobility, click here to apply.

We look forward to reopening with exciting new programming as soon as it is safe and recommended. Until then, we’ll continue to offer content and experiences online.
Please consider supporting our shared automotive heritage in these difficult times with a gift in support of our work. Now more than ever, your gift ensures that we continue to learn from, support and celebrate human endeavors in mobility.

Warm Regards,
Sarah Cook
President
