The Michigan state average moves above $2 a gallon for the first time in over two months
DEARBORN, Mich., (June 8, 2020) - Gas prices in Michigan are up 9 cents compared to last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average price of $2.05 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 34 cents more than this time last month but still 74 cents less than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $31 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $13 from when prices were their highest last July.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, demand grew slightly from 7.3 million b/d to 7.5 million b/d last week. The increase in demand has occurred alongside an increase in the national average. If this trend continues, motorists will likely see pump prices continue to move higher.
“As the Michigan state average rises above $2 a gallon for the first time in over two months, motorists could expect pump prices to continue their increase through this week," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group.
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.03 per gallon, 5 cents more than last week’s average and 76 cents less than this time last year.
