DEARBORN, Mich., (September 3, 2019) - Gas prices in Michigan slipped 11 cents compared to a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $2.60 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 18 cents less than this time last month and about 26 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $39 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $8 from when prices were their highest last May.

In its latest weekly report, the Energy Information Administration revealed that refineries operated at 95.2% capacity and gasoline production increased, averaging 10.7 million barrels per day. At the same time, EIA estimated gasoline demand to be at 9.9 million b/d, a week-on-week increase of 274,000 b/d, while total motor gasoline inventories decreased by 2.1 million barrels last week.

"Normally increased demand coupled with decreased gasoline inventory might lead to higher prices at the pump, but increased U.S. gasoline production along with concerns about the impact of Hurricane Dorian has led to declines," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.71 per gallon, about 4 cents less than last week’s average and about 20 cents less than this same time last year.
