cherry festivalKat Paye, Executive Director of the National Cherry Festival, talks with Chris Holman about this year's 95th National Cherry Festival located in Traverse City, MI. As the National Cherry Festival sets up the bounty of white tents in Traverse City’s Open Space Park, it may appear that the Festival is back to 100 percent normal, and while masks will not be required, and it remains a non-ticketed Festival to get in, both in planning and execution safety is the first priority. In the interview, Kat covers what to expect at this year's festival.

Here's other details covered in the interview and released by the festival;

(Traverse City, MI) The National Cherry Festival has taken many forms over the last 95 years, however even when it hasn’t been able to take the open space stage the one thing that never waived was the support of the Grand Traverse Area. This year we continue and push forward in the most safe, and practical way as possible, because now, the National Cherry Festival is here to support the Grand Traverse Region. “ With the impossibility of knowing when restrictions would be lifted or changed, we had to start planning in January to provide Traverse City with a safe, family friendly event that allowed everyone to participate no matter how ready they are to fully enter back into “normal” life, ”said Kat Paye, Executive Director of the National Cherry Festival. As we are now entering the time of restrictions lifting and the Northern Michigan Region expecting an influx of visitors, the National Cherry Festival plans to be a beacon of both safety, and the hope that we can once again come together.

As the National Cherry Festival sets up the bounty of white tents in Traverse City’s Open Space Park, it may appear that the Festival is back to 100 percent normal, and while masks will not be required, and we will be remaining a non-ticketed Festival to get in, both in planning and execution safety is the first priority. So what can you expect at the National Cherry Festival?

· Things will be more spread out, the open space layout will be different in years past, the most notable change will be the beer tent, where the Bayside Music Stage previously was.

· Although there will be no Bayside Music Stage, there will be the National Cherry Festival Music Stage in our Beer Tent Area will local music acts from around Michigan performing.

· Our Farmer’s Market will all be in one tent this year, allowing us to provide more local products and take the burden of staffing from our local stores, we have changed around the Farmer’s Market to a treasure trove of cherry products locals and visitors alike will love.

· On July 4th, our Arts and Crafts Fair as well as the Old Town Car Show will be at the Grand Traverse Commons, with extra room to walk and park this venue will provide the leisurely experience that all are looking for.

· The National Cherry Festival Kids Club and all Kids Events will be at F&M Park, usually home to a majority of kids events, the park allows Kids a safe place to enjoy all the cherry activities we have to offer!

· The parade will not march down Front Street this year, the DTE Foundation Cherry Royale Parade Experience will be a standing parade at the Grand Traverse Resort to highlight the school floats from around the area.

· We will still be holding some virtual events, like the Virtual Grand Traverse Pie Make and Bake, the Consumers Energy Very Cherry Porch Parade, virtual and in person race options, along with many events streamed on the Festival’s social media sites.

· The National Cherry Festival will continue to focus on the health and wellness of the community hosting yoga, Zumba, bike rides, and the Grand Traverse Health Department will be hosting a vaccine tent during the National Cherry Festival, so anyone can get their vaccine while on the Festival grounds.
