ST. JOHNS, MI – The phrase “home for the holidays” holds special significance for a Sparrow Caregiver and her U.S. Army Veteran husband.

The program awards mortgage-free houses to honorably discharged veterans and retirees as well as currently serving Reservists and National Guard. Qualifying families must also be financially stable. The home was donated by JP Morgan Chase & Co. through Homes on the Home Front, a program funded by Operation Homefront.

Gathering Documents, Updating Addresses Today 
Makes Filing Returns Easier

 

LANSING, Mich. – With the state of Michigan’s individual income tax season beginning in late January 2019, the Michigan Department of Treasury is asking taxpayers to take a couple of actions today to ensure returns are processed promptly.

Taxpayers are encouraged to begin gathering tax-related documents and updating their home addresses with current and previous employers so W-2s and other financial documents can be mailed to the correct address. Incorrect addresses typically lead to information being mailed to the wrong location and could cause delays when filing tax returns.

LANSING, MI – Sparrow Health System has won Gift of Life Michigan’s 2018 Hospital Challenge by registering the most organ and tissue donors during a six-week statewide competition this fall. Sparrow was recognized at a ceremony today at the hospital.Sparrow signed up 1,041 new donors – a record for the annual challenge. Detroit Medical Center came in second with 1,028 and Beaumont Health in Royal Oak placed third with 337.

The combined total for hospitals that participated was 3,180 – up from 1,691 in 2017.

CARSON CITY, MI – A mass casualty exercise was recently held at Sparrow Carson Hospital, simulating a disaster striking the community.

The drill involved community partners such as the Carson City Police and Fire Departments, Montcalm County EMS disaster response trailers, the Michigan Department of Corrections tactical team and recruiting services, and the AeroMed Flight Team. The drill also welcomed students from Carson City-Crystal High School and young people interested in joining the military and healthcare fields. Students participated in the triage exercise, toured the AeroMed Flight helicopter, and attended a debriefing after the event.
