Dennis Swan, Long-Time Sparrow Health System CEO and Health Industry Thought Leader, Announces Plans To Retire

LANSING, MI – Dennis Swan, long-time president and CEO of Lansing-based Sparrow Health System announced today he plans to retire in October of this year. Swan, 70, took over the Sparrow helm in June 2005, after serving as interim president since November 2004 and in numerous executive roles prior to that for a total of over 37 years of service.

“Last year, as I was approaching age 70, I began to consider life after Sparrow. IONIA, MI – Nurses at Sparrow Ionia Hospital have achieved a major national honor, with the hospital becoming only the third in Michigan to earn the Pathway to Excellence® designation by the American Nurses Credential Center.

Sparrow Ionia is only the second critical access hospital in the state – joining Sparrow Clinton Hospital – to receive the honor. Only 150 healthcare organizations around the country have earned the designation.

Lansing MLK, Jr., Commission 2018 MLK Art Exhibit, "Remembering Martin" March 4 - April 30

Days ahead of an art exhibit in East Lansing planned by the Greater Lansing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commision, MBN's Jeffrey Mosher, spoke with the commision's chairperson Elaine Hardy. The MLK art exhibit is presented by the Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission and commemorates the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination.

Artwork and artifacts represent Dr. King’s life from the 1957 founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, for which Dr. King was the first elected president, to his assassination April 4, 1968, and funeral April 9. • Included are three prints autographed by John Lewis, a U.S. representative for Georgia and a leader in the civil rights movement.
