Flint & Genesee Chamber’s Policy Committee Endorses Genesee Health Plan’s Millage Renewal

The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Committee (PPC) today endorsed millage renewal request for the Genesee Health Plan on the Nov. 6 ballot. 

The Genesee Health Plan (GHP) is seeking renewal of 0.998 mill for seven years – 2020 through 2026 – to continue funding a health-care delivery system, through the Genesee County Health Department, for low-income residents of Genesee County. The renewal would to cost the owner of $100,000 house in Genesee County $4.16 a month ($49.90 annually).

DPSCD Announces Hydration Stations: Long-term Drinking Water Solution for All Schools with Philanthropic Support

District to begin implementation immediately with completion by summer 2019

DETROIT – (Oct. 9, 2018) The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) announced today its long-term solution to provide clean drinking water for the more than 50,000 students and staff throughout the District with the installation of water hydration systems. In addition, the District announced support from approximately a dozen philanthropic partners who have committed $2.4 million to support the purchase and installation of the hydration systems to be placed in every school building by summer of 2019. DPSCD will be one of the nation’s largest public school districts with hydration stations in all school buildings. The hydration stations offer filtration technology designed to cool water and remove lead, copper and other contaminants. The District will install one station for every 100 students as well as one in every gym and faculty lounge.

Jeffrey Mosher catches up with Jon Baker, Administrative Director of Sparrow Laboratories, Lansing, MI. They cover Sparrow Health System’s new Center for Laboratory Medicine and what it means for Patient care. Sparrow recently held an open house for the public to learn about the facility. 

Sparrow Laboratories is one of the top 20 busiest hospital labs in the country and home to some 500 Caregivers. Sparrow Center for Laboratory Science opened for more advanced testing and quicker processing of the tens of thousands of Patient test results they receive every year. During the tour, Sparrow showcased the latest high-tech equipment analyzing DNA and detecting micro-organisms that foreshadow diseases.
