Landmark approval instills Michigan's commitment to eliminating state’s digital divide

Lansing, Mich.—Today, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II and the Michigan High-Speed Internet Office (MIHI) announced the approval of Michigan’s first-ever Digital Equity Plan by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). This landmark approval marks a significant step forward in Michigan's commitment to eliminating the digital divide and ensuring that every Michigan resident has access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet.

• Detroit, Sterling Heights, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Saginaw locations will be remodeled

• Claimants will be served by UIA staff in nearby temporary offices

• New offices will be more welcoming and productive

Resources are available to support people with autism and their family members

LANSING, Mich. — To foster acceptance and encourage Michiganders to work together to build a more inclusive state that supports opportunities for all, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joins the Michigan Departments of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), Education (MDE), Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Autism Alliance of Michigan to proclaim April as Autism Acceptance Month.

LANSING, Mich. – Not seasonally adjusted jobless rates rose in all 17 Michigan labor market areas over the month, according to data released today by the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics.   

“Michigan regional labor markets displayed jobless rate increases typical for February,” said Wayne Rourke, labor market information director for the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics. “Employment gains were seen in most metro areas during February.”

State Challenge Process will identify funding to reach universal broadband availability

Lansing, Mich.—Today, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II joined the Michigan High-Speed Internet Office (MIHI) and announced the start of the State Challenge Process, encouraging Michiganders to help identify locations across the state that are eligible for high-speed internet infrastructure expansion through the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program.

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased by one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.9 percent between January and February, according to data released today by the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics. Employment in the state edged up by 2,000, while unemployment was reduced by 4,000 over the month. The statewide workforce inched down by 1,000 in February.
