Consumers Energy Offers Appliance Recycling, Helping Michigan Residents Reduce Costs and Earn Rebates

JACKSON, Mich., April 17, 2017 – As Michigan residents start their spring cleaning, Consumers Energy is encouraging people to turn old household items into cash through its appliance recycling program.

Consumers Energy expects to recycle over 20,000 old refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners and dehumidifiers this year. The energy provider started offering appliance recycling again after suspending its program in November.

JACKSON, Mich., April 10, 2017 – Consumers Energy has safety tips for do-it-yourselfers and contractors gearing up for digging projects this spring, and Gov. Rick Snyder is declaring April as Dig Safely Month to reinforce the importance of these reminders to Michigan residents.

“The No. 1 precaution to avoid underground utilities and perform a digging project safely is to first contact MISS DIG 811 before putting a shovel, backhoe, rototiller or any earth-moving equipment in the ground,” said Charles Crews, Consumers Energy’s vice president of gas operations. “The safety of our employees, our customers and our communities is the top priority at Consumers Energy. We want to emphasize it is simple and free to have underground utilities marked, and it is also the law if you are using power equipment.”

Customers are now able to enroll in Consumers Energy’s new Peak Power Savers program, which provides options to lower their bills. Residential customers can sign up for rates that reward them with discounts for shifting their energy use to off-peak times or can allow their air conditioning units to be briefly cycled at certain times to save money.

Restoring Nearly 280,000 Customers Affected by Wind Storm Damage

JACKSON, Mich., March 10, 2017 – Consumers Energy employees, contractors and mutual assistance crews from six states working around the clock have restored power to more than 280,000 customers affected by this week’s damaging wind storm.

The vast majority of customers without electric service should have power restored by midnight Saturday. In some of the hardest areas, including portions of Barry, Calhoun, Ionia, Jackson, Kent and Lenawee counties restoration work will continue into Sunday. As of 9 p.m., approximately 60,000 customers remained without power.

Consumers Energy Continues Restoration Progress Following Powerful Wind Storm

Crews Restore Service to Half the Electric Customers Affected by Outages

JACKSON, Mich., March 9, 2017 – Consumers Energy crews have since Tuesday restored more than 160,000 customers left without electric service by damaging winds that ripped across Michigan Tuesday and Wednesday. That edges the recovery work past the halfway point of the 319,000 customers served by the energy provider affected by this catastrophic event, which took down nearly 8,200 wires and broke more than 1,100 poles.

Because of the storm’s duration and statewide impact, some customers in the worst impacted areas may not have power restored until Sunday.
